HOMEWORK CLUB & EXAM STUDY

For the past year, to combat the stresses on education by virtual schooling during lockdowns, Ansaar Foundation hosted Homework Club, an initiative organized to help students Grade 3 and up with their homework.

Homework Club is ongoing, and takes place every Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM starting from October 2nd, 2021 on Zoom. It is an ongoing program into 2022.

In December, Ansaar Foundation also hosted in person Exam Prep sessions at  our Lawrence office, providing students with access to tutors, quiet space, snacks and more.

Breaking the taboo

BREAKING THE TABOO

Video Launch Event

Ansaar Foundation launched  a series of videos titled “Breaking the Taboo” with a special virtual event. The mental health documentary series addressed some of the challenges facing the community during the pandemic and supports available to the community. The first video launch featured special guests Wali Shah, a well-known Canadian inspirational speaker, poet, musician, philanthropist, and former Poet Laureate of Mississauga. He was joined by Dr. Imam Abdulhai Patel and Zubeda Vahed, Trustees of Ansaar Foundation. The Emcee for the event was Ansaar Foundation Secretary Rukhsana Syed. The event was live streamed and well attended by community members across the city.

Video Documentary Series

Ansaar Foundation funded the creation of a series of videos titled “Breaking the Taboo”, a documentary series addressing the real concern  of mental health, challenges facing the community during the pandemic and support available to the community.

Featuring Ansaar Foundation Trustee Imam Dr. Abdul Hai Patel, as well as Director of Programming Dr. Abdul Hamid Hathiyani, the documentary series addresses mental health for seniors, youth, women, and immigrants, as well as other facets of our community. Directed by Boonaa Mohamed, the series was well received by the community, with support garnered through social media.

ANNUAL DIGITAL IFTAR

This past Ramadan, Ansaar Foundation participated in Digital Iftar, a Canadian based project that creates space for Muslims to share experiences online. Ansaar Foundation hosted an Annual Virtual Ramadan Iftar on May 2nd, 2021.

Board Members, staff, community members and friends came together to break bread and reflect on the pandemic, the year ahead, and visions for Ansaar Foundation’s future.

The project was run by a joint collaboration between SFU Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies (CCMS) and The Tessellate Institute (TTI).

VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS

Spring into Job Readiness

Ansaar Foundation hosts a series of Job Readiness workshops every year.  Last year, Ansaar Foundation presented a series of employment workshops every Tuesday of May starting May 11th, 2021 at 11:30am. Workshops included Job Search Techniques, Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Interview Skills and LMI and Human Rights.

We thank our guest presenters Dr. Abdul Hai Patel, Dr. Abdul Hamid Hathiyani,  Rukhsana Syed, and Jazib Khan. The workshops were well attended, with young, first-time job seekers joining in for discussion and guidance.

Marriage and Divorce Seminars

Ansaar Foundation hosts regular seminars on Marriage and Divorce in Islam, the first of which was hosted on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

The Marriage and Divorce in Islam seminars are conducted by Ansaar Foundation for the young couples, newly married and married people in the community. Panelists include Dr. Imam Abdul Hai Patel and Sabrine Azraq, National Legal Services Coordinator for CCMW, providing participants with information about the practices and rights of an individual in a marriage, legally, religiously and traditionally.

DIGITAL LITERACY WORKSHOPS FOR SENIORS

Ansaar Foundation hosts a series of Digital Literacy Workshops for Seniors. Topics include online safety, social media, and how to access resources.

The three day workshops culminate with a graduation ceremony where participants were gifted tablets for them to use at home.

The Workshops are supported by the New Horizons Digital Literacy Grant.

VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP FOR YOUTH

Ansaar Foundation hosted a Virtual Summer Camp. The online interactive summer program focused on registering youth from Canada and the United States.

The goal behind this program was to get young individuals involved with a variety of engaging activities. Throughout this online event, participants would learn new skills and venture beyond what they learned in the classroom. Each day there were different theme based activities like wellness, communication, leadership, teamwork, and facts & myths combined with a brief introduction of famous personalities and groups.

ANNUAL GARAGE SALE

Ansaar Foundation hosted a Fundraiser Garage Sale on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 3630 Lawrence Avenue East.

Board Members came together to raise funds for the services and programs for the youth, seniors, homeless, immigrants and community.

The community came together to support the food security and community programs organized by Ansaar Foundation including: Feed the Homeless, Meals for the Seniors, Homework Club, Summer Camp, etc.

Winter kits

WINTER KITS FOR THE HOMELESS

Ansaar Foundation volunteers have been hard at work packing Winter Kits for community members facing homelessness. Packs include warm winter clothes, sanitary products, and resources. These will be distributed along with hot meal box across the city in January and February 2022.
