Ansaar Foundation Founder and Trustee, Imam Dr. Abdul Hai Patel, spoke at yesterday’s #BrokenHeartsDayTO at Nathan Philips Square, against homelessness and poverty. Watch his statement below.

“Imam Abdul Hai Patel, of the Canadian Council of Imams, said the death of so many people experiencing homelessness in a city as rich as Toronto is “unacceptable.”
“How long can this go on? That’s my question,” said Patel, who among other things is the founder of the Ansaar Foundation, a charitable organization focused on poverty reduction and addressing homelessness in Toronto.
“Housing is a human right in this country, but we are not giving that right to people … We need to respect human dignity,” he said, adding both elected officials as well as the community have a role to play in stopping unhoused people from suffering and dying.”
